FAQs about Suncream
1. Why do you need to wear sunscreen?
- Basically, it stops you from getting burnt, which is horrible. But it's also about stopping long-term damage from the sun's rays, which can lead to skin cancer and premature ageing.
2. What SPF should you be using?
- Aim for SPF 30 at least, that's a good all-rounder. If you're fair-skinned, spend loads of time in the sun, or burn easily, go for SPF 50+. And always check it's broad-spectrum, meaning it protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
3. How often do you need to reapply suncream?
- Every two hours is the golden rule. More often if you're swimming, sweating, or towelling down. Even water-resistant stuff needs topping up.
4. What kind of sunscreen should you go for?
- It depends on your skin, really. If you've got sensitive skin, mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are usually better. If you're going swimming, make sure it's water-resistant. And if you're prone to spots, look for oil-free or non-comedogenic ones.
5. How much sunscreen do you need to put on?
- More than you think. A shot glass full for your whole body is a good guide. Don't forget your ears, neck, feet, and the back of your hands for 100% protection.
